Selling an Apple Studio Display: Why It's a Tough Sell, and What It's Worth
The short answer: A used Studio Display is a slow private sale: Apple now sells a newer model, the buyers are almost all Mac users, and a 27-inch screen is risky to ship. It still has real value — we pay $700 to $1,200 depending on the stand and the glass. Sell it with its stand and cable, and hand it over in person if you can, rather than shipping it.
Paid the same day. Every time.
- Walk in, walk out with cash. No shipping, no waiting. Usually 10–15 minutes at our Hollywood store.
- Ship it to us and we pay the day it arrives. Not 3 to 7 days later like the national buyback sites — the same day we get it.
- Insured both ways, for the full offer amount. Free FedEx label to us, and free insured return if you say no. No hassle.
Big screens are easier to sell across a counter than through a carrier.
"Apple Studio Display, such a tough sell, even for Apple customers" hit 160+ comments on r/mac this month. Another thread — "a barely used Studio Display for $700" — got 50+. If you have tried to sell one, you already know the feeling.
Why Studio Displays Sit
- There is a newer model. Since Apple released a newer Studio Display in 2026, buyers looking at a used one compare it against that, and against Apple's own refurbished prices.
- The buyer pool is small. It is a Mac display at heart. PC and console buyers can get a cheaper monitor, so you are selling to Mac owners only.
- The stand is fixed. The tilt stand, tilt-and-height stand and VESA mount are chosen at purchase. A buyer who wants a different one moves on.
- It is hard to ship. A 27-inch glass panel in the wrong box is a cracked panel. Many buyers will only buy locally.
What a Studio Display Is Worth
From our Apple display page: a working Studio Display pays $700 to $1,200. The low end is standard glass with the tilt stand; the high end is nano-texture glass or the tilt-and-height stand, in good condition.
| What changes the price | Effect |
|---|---|
| Nano-texture glass | Toward the top of the range |
| Tilt-and-height stand | Toward the top of the range |
| Original Thunderbolt cable | Adds $30–$50 |
| Original box | Adds $20–$40, and makes shipping far safer |
| Dead pixels, cracks, marks on the panel | We do not buy it |
Selling a Mac with it? Quote the pair together — one inspection, one payment. A Mac Studio and display together is the setup most buyers are looking for.
How to Sell One Privately
- Price below Apple's refurbished price for the same configuration — clearly below, or buyers will just go to Apple.
- List the exact configuration: glass type, stand type, and whether you have the box and cable.
- Show it working. A photo of the display on, with a plain white and a plain black screen, answers the dead-pixel question.
- Sell locally. Let the buyer see it running before any money changes hands.
- Before it goes: it has no Apple ID lock, so there is nothing to sign out of. Wipe the screen with the polishing cloth and pack the cable.
If You Have to Ship It
Use the original box if you have it. If not, a buyer who sends you a properly sized display box is worth more than one who does not. And insure it for the full sale amount, in writing — prepaid labels usually carry about $100 of cover, which is nothing on a $1,000 screen.
The Easy Way in Los Angeles
Bring it to 1947 N. Cahuenga Blvd. #104, Hollywood, with the stand and cable. We check it in front of you and pay cash the same visit. No listing, no waiting for the one Mac buyer, no box. If you do not like the number, you take it home.
Outside LA? Call (323) 378-5603 first and we will sort out packing for a large display. Everything ships insured for the full offer amount, and we pay the day it arrives.

Common Questions
How much is a used Apple Studio Display worth?
We pay $700 to $1,200 for a working Studio Display, depending on the glass and the stand. Nano-texture glass or the tilt-and-height stand sit at the top of that range.
Why is my Studio Display hard to sell?
Apple sells a newer model, the buyers are almost all Mac owners, the stand cannot be swapped, and many buyers will not risk shipping a 27-inch panel.
Do I need to sign out of anything before selling a Studio Display?
No. Apple displays have no Apple ID lock. Clean the screen and include the stand and cable.
Does the original box matter?
A little for price, a lot for shipping. The original box adds about $20 to $40 and makes it far safer to ship.
Do you buy Studio Displays with dead pixels?
No. We buy working displays only, with no dead pixels, cracks or panel damage.
